According to a recent announcement by LG, it has developed the world's first Java-based handset. Although Java has been used in mobile phones before, LG's new offering marks the first time that all functions on the phone, including the user interface, are supported by Java software. The GSM/GPRS smart phone features a 1.3MP camera module, Bluetooth functionality and a SD card with storage capacity of up to 1GB. The phone is expected to go into mass production in 2006.
